Meet the Artist
Katlin Schneider is a born and raised Midwestern storyteller who works out Chicago as Chillage Art, cutting apart and pasting together delicate pieces of the past to reflect on where we are now. She scrounges clippings from vintage magazines and books and transforms these into analog collage art. Her artwork applies queer and feminine lenses, to poke fun at societal conventions, polished with a surrealist and absurdist flourish.
Her first collages were created in high school to add touches of whimsy to her course notebooks. After over a decade of filmmaking, she dove back into collage with a submission to Cut Me Up Magazine. Katlin has been featured in issues 16 and 17 of Cut Me Up and was chosen to show her art at the Chicago Collage Community’s Community Through Collage II Exhibition in March 2026.

What Makes
Collage Chill?
The process of collaging is inherently chill. Flipping through books and magazines sets a calming cadence akin to meditation. Then there's the delight found in discovering another time and place through images, followed by the catharsis (yep, we're using that word) of cutting pictures out of their original context, and reassembling those bits of paper into worlds that tell a new story.
And then that story gets to continue with you! After the art goes out into the wild, you get to meet it, your thoughts interact with it, and when it's the right match, you bring it into your life and it gets to live in a whole new context. What's cooler than that?
